The Past Is A Foreign Country
These photographs look back to my upbringing in a deeply religious family.
I was raised in a small evangelical church and my childhood was steeped in stillness, order and modesty.
In this series of images, I’ve captured echoes and traces of the strange land of my past, and of the uneasy path away from my parents’ convictions.
Although taken in contemporary eastern Germany, these photographs look back to a 1970s suburban English childhood which was shaped and shadowed by the force of religious belief.
